Organized by UC Merced student chapter of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE), http://sweucmerced.weebly.com, this annual event brings 6-12 grade female students to UC Merced for a day of STEM activities and interaction with women role models. The conference goal is to motivate girls to become innovative and creative thinkers. It promotes young women to join the STEM field through participation in workshops related to the fields of science, engineering, computer science and healthcare. SWE held its first Expending Your Horizons conference in February 2014 and was attended by 120 students and the number of participants increases every year.
