Young Engineer and Scientist (YES) Academy
The UC Merced YES Academy is an outreach initiative extablished in Fall 2014 by the STEM Center and then UC Merced Fresno Center. The goal of the YES Academy is to endorse STEM education by connecting UC Merced with local schools. Via demonstrations, lessons and hands-on activities, UC Merced undergraduate students and staff provide academic enrichment and STEM learning opportunities for K-8 students in the San Joaquin Valley. The YES team receives a warm welcome in each school and children enjoy working side-by-side with UC Merced students. School groups are invited to attend educational activities on campus, hosted by the STEM Center and partnering student organizations led by Vanguard. And we have been in the media since our early days: Merced Sun-Star: Sheehy Elementary School.
Activites are scheduled by appointment (first come first serve basis) and designed via close collaboration with the participating school's lead person. Please, allow sufficient time for planning and organization.

Center for Cellular and Biomolecular Machines (CCBM)
The NSF-CREST Center for Cellular and Biomolecular Machines uses an interdisciplinary approach combining physical, biological and engineering methods to understand and control the functioning of multi-scale assemblies of biomolecules and cells, and to design and develop novel bio-inspired functioning machines ranging from designer cells and tissue to diagnostic and therapeutic devices. The center is also focused on enhancing biophysics, biochemistry, and bioengineering graduate and undergraduate education, as well as leading K-12 STEM outreach activities in the Merced area for teachers and students.
